The traditional Christmas pot plant, a native of Mexico. I have a plant that has produced the red bracts for some years, but sadly as it was looking at its best, I moved it to a more prominent position in the courtyard and it was windy and the plant suffered.
I bought these two on the market as I found the colours so striking. The Spanish name for the poinsettia is “Flor de pascua” and many of the municipal gardens are filled with them. Pascua relates to Christmas but also significantly Easter and Passover.
